Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel thanked blood donors during a visit to an American Red Cross blood drive in Union, MO, Wednesday, Aug. 10. Zweifel stopped by the blood drive at the Union American Legion hall to meet presenting donors and thank them for their efforts to help bring blood supplies back to adequate levels.
“The need for blood and platelet donations is clear throughout Missouri,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “It is great to see the Union community come together to support each other by taking time out of busy days to become blood donors.”
Not only did donors at the Union drive get the opportunity to meet Treasurer Zweifel, but just for attempting to donate they were entered into a weekly drawing to win a $250 gas card. Presenting donors at all Red Cross blood drives and donation centers will have that opportunity through Sept. 5. Anyone who attempts to donate blood with the Red Cross during the Labor Day holiday weekend will be entered to win a $1,000 gas card.
Blood drives like the one in Union are especially important now, as the Red Cross sees blood supplies nationwide at less than adequate levels. Blood donations are up from historically low numbers in May and June, but blood products continue to go to area hospitals just as quickly as they are coming in.
